Our products include industrial wireless sensor networks (specifically temperature and humidity sensors), and integrated software systems to monitor, log and document product core and ambient temperatures and relative humidity. These instruments will ensure that temperature-sensitive products comply with local quality assurance specifications, as well as national and international GCCMP standards. The products of our company have their origins in export quality assurance requirements, placed on Western Cape grape farmers, to document core temperatures during the Cold Chain. A T-type thermocouple was inserted into a grape core (packed inside a box and stacked on a pallet), with the thermocouple leads protruding. During the pre-cooling phase, the output from the leads was (manually) measured inside the cold stores. It soon became obvious to the farmers that remote monitoring would simplify their work and be more accurate. The need to monitor and log inaccessible pallets, and continuous traffic inside larger stores, made wired solutions impractical and so a two-way radio communication system was developed to uniquely address each sensor. Subsequent export requirements prescribed the use of the PT1000 for firm perishable produce. Termolog makes rugged, industrial temperature sensors which are water-tight, can withstand over-pressure and all cold store conditions. These sensors conform to the local Perishable Produce Export Control Board requirements for technical design and calibration accuracy. In 2003, Termolog was appointed Sole Agent for Ebro in the Southern African region. Ebro is a middle-sized manufacturer of portable electronic measuring instruments for temperature, pressure, humidity and other physical parameters with a staff of about 100, based in Ingolstadt, Germany. Ebro has been developing, manufacturing and distributing first-class measuring instruments for more than 30 years. Software for all Ebro instruments is also developed on site in Germany. Termolog is a company that was started by Jack Saayman, stemming from his belief that the South African fruit and perishable product industry needed more sophisticated means of monitoring and logging their temperature data. Jack comes from an electrical and mechanical engineering background, and lends his nearly 50 years of vast technical expertise to the business. Koos handles the sensitive electronic issues, and brings with him 30 years of experience in the electronics field.
